THE STEPS OF PROGRESS, IN THE LYCIAN CRAFT, NECESSARY FOR OFFICIAL RECOGNITION BY THE LYCIAN SANCTUARY
(This is the course of study that is involved in achieving the various levels of initiation in the Lycian Tradition, and full completion of this study is necessary to apply for ordination from The Lycian Sanctuary.)
1. On several occasions discuss, with the candidate for initiation, their personal beliefs and ideas; also compare these to the Craft and check for congruity. Invite the candidate to Sabbats; notice how the candidate interacts with the coven membership; look for harmony. The candidate should ask for initiation without being prompted, but inform the candidate that membership in the coven is the first step towards initiation, when there is a coven available to them. (If no Lycian Coven is available in a particular area, then an initiator may initiate the candidate on their own discretion, without any sort of coven membership.)
2. Initiate the candidate into the First Rite as delineated by The Lycian Sanctuary. (Instructors knowledgeable in each Rite are assigned for each the three levels of initiation by the Initiator.)
A. Learn the Solitary Opening, including the poem The Circle.
B. Memorize the first initiation.
C. Memorize the basic meanings for all the working tools and compose, as lengthy as possible, a table of correspondences. Also have the initiate acquire all four basic tools.
D. Memorize the consecration ritual.
E. Have the initiate choose a handicraft in which to work and improve in, which can be saved for future reference.
F. Test the initiate for competence by having him or her demonstrate, without any outside help, the Solitary Opening, the First Initiation and the Consecration Ritual. ( If a coven is available, then this should take place before as many of the membership, that are first level initiates or higher, as possible.)
3. Initiate the brother or sister into the Second Rite as delineated by The Lycian Sanctuary.
A. Learn the group opening.
B. Memorize the second initiation.
C. Memorize the Wheel and know its basic myth. Have the initiate make comparisons between it and common myths in a variety of cultures.
D. Have the brother or sister select a skill, strongly associated with the Wiccan Craft, in which to become proficient.
E. Test the initiate for competence by having him or her demonstrate, without any outside help, the Second Initiation and give an open lecture on the Wheel of the Year and the archetypal mythology associated with it while providing specific examples from a variety of cultural contexts. ( If a coven is available, then this should take place before as many of the membership, that are second level initiates or higher, as possible.)
4. Initiate the brother or sister into the Third Rite" as delineated by The Lycian Sanctuary.
A. Memorize the third initiation.
B. Form a coven of three or more people, unless there is a priest or priestess position available in the member's current coven, and submit reports on its work for one year.
C. Write a dramatic ritual to celebrate one of the Feasts so that it is original and yet true to the Wheel.
D. Write and enact a dramatic solo ritual whose subject matter deals with one of the "mysteries."
E. Select a healing art in which to become proficient.
F. Study the "Four Kingdoms" and the deities associated with these kingdoms; understand the underlying forms and relate them to the Tarot cards.
G. Test the initiate for competence by having him or her demonstrate, without any outside help, the Third Initiation and then give an open lecture on the "Four Kingdoms of the Deities." ( If a coven is available, then this should take place before as many of the membership, that are third level initiates, as possible.)
5. The brother or sister having shown suitable proficiency in the work for all the preceding degrees and having completed the criteria for the Third Level is ready to be ordained Priestess or Priest through the Lycian Sanctuary. This proficiency is evaluated by means of formal examinations given between each of the Rites and following the last. So mote it be.
Note: Official credentials for any particular Lycian initiator may be verified by emailing the Lycian Sanctuary. For verification, please include the initiator's legal name, Craft name, current address and phone number. (All correspondence is strictly confidential.)
